Underfloor Heating Market by Type, Facility, Application and Geography - Global Forecast to 2020
LONDON, Dec. 29, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- In today's modern dynamic world of technology, the underfloor heating system is one of the most preferred heating systems with numerous benefits, which are being used in a wide range of commercial, industrial, and residential buildings. This system has many advantages over radiator heating systems and has become a viable method of space heating with significant advances in heating technology.
The main reasons for the underfloor heating system being the ideal heating system in current environment are the increasing quality of new building techniques (insulation, controls, and many others) and the drive towards renewable energy technologies. The growing demand for renewable energy technologies has a significant impact on the future demand for underfloor heating systems. These energy and heating solutions are particularly compatible and can achieve significant carbon savings, helping to meet renewable energy targets.
The underfloor heating systems are of two types which are hydronic UFH systems, and electric UFH systems. In hydronic radiant UFH system, heated water is propelled from a boiler through a link of tubing underneath the floor. Heat is conducted to the surface of the floor by the hot water, and from there, radiant energy is emitted to the room. The hydronic UFH system is suitable for most floor surfaces such as carpet, ceramic, engineered and solid wood, laminate, stone and vinyl. Since it uses water for heating, it can be linked to any heat source from a standard boiler to newer sustainable technologies such as solar thermal and heat pumps.
An electric underfloor heating system uses electricity for its operation. This heating system operates via pads that are installed beneath the floor, which are plugged into an electricity source and heated that way. Electric UFH systems use non-corrosive, flexible heating elements and use fewer components than hydronic UFH systems and are simpler to install.
The global underfloor heating market exhibits a lucrative growth potential for the next five years. The growth of the market is propelled by growing environmental and energy-efficiency concerns, along with increasing awareness of the benefits of UFH. In terms of aesthetics, underfloor heating system removes the need for observable heat emitters, increases the usable floor area and gives free rein for contemporary design schemes. In addition, the increasing trend of automation in commercial buildings and homes in developing nations has further contributed to the growth potential of this market. Despite various advantages of underfloor heating systems, the high cost of retrofitting underfloor heating systems in existing buildings and slow response time of underfloor heating are restraining the growth of global underfloor heating market.
The global underfloor heating market was valued at USD 4.65 billion in 2014 and is expected to grow further at a CAGR of 8.7% from 2015 to 2020. Europe accounted for the major market share of ~40% in 2014, followed by North America with ~35%. The UFH market in Europe is expected to grow at the highest CAGR of 10.5% from 2015 to 2020. In particular, the growing environmental and energy-efficiency concerns are seeing greater influence in specification of underfloor heating in Europe as the European countries move towards a low-carbon economy. Also, the high rate of adoption of underfloor heating systems in the growing commercial and residential sectors in Europe is driving the growth of the European underfloor heating market.
