Unique Designer's Cake Will Officially Open the First Showroom Bakery with a Grand Celebration

MIAMI, Feb. 14, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Like so many in the U.S., the economic crisis hit home for Carolina and Fernando. Before the turmoil, they were both successful architects working at top firms in Miami. They never imagined they would both be out of work, at the same time. But, sadly, they were both let go due to downsizings in 2009.  However, in the midst of this heart wrenching process, they kept the faith! Carolina knew that she had to re-invent herself and that was exactly what she did! After a day of watching her favorite shows on The Food Network, an idea dawned on her, "Why not fuse my architectural background, with my culinary skills and create captivating, edible pieces?" She brought her husband onboard and thus the next chapter of their lives began to be written.  Unique Designer's Cake was born!

Because of their tireless work as a team, Unique Designer's Cake has received many accolades and national awards and recognition for their creations. During the most prestigious art fair in the U.S, Art Basel, the German artist Anselm Reyle, who is known for his shiny, fluorescent artworks, wanted to make a glow-in-the-dark cake and called upon Unique Designer's Cake. They were the only team that was able to create this for him!  UNIQUE produced a special formula, where the blue frosting glowed in the dark as a Tron character. In 2012, Carolina was invited to participate in The Food Network's, Sugar Dome, with a complicated and intricate 6-hour cake challenge.  For two consecutive years, they placed in the top ten finalists for the annual National Gingerbread Competition held in Asheville, North Carolina. This was announced live on Good Morning America, the ABC National Morning Show. They have also taken the grand prize in the best Gingerbread House in the annual Coral Gables Museum competition in Miami—three years running!  In 2010, the Colombian American Chamber of Commerce selected Carolina as the winner of the "Best Dessert Menu" in Miami competition.

In 2013, Unique Designer's Cake opened its first showroom bakery in Downtown Miami and in celebration of this milestone, will officially open with a Grand Celebration on Friday, March 15.  "In our UNIQUE edible, showroom you will find from a tower of handbags that defy the laws of gravity, to a three- dimensional jeep driven by animals," says Carolina. This versatile space has been developed not only as a showroom, but also as a UNIQUE event space where we will teach participants to create and decorate their favorite desserts! 

Unique Designer's Cake is simply not willing to mass-produce cakes. They consult with clients to create special edible pieces that tell their own UNIQUE story.  The design starts with the client's ideas, feelings, favorite colors and photographs. Using these, Unique Designer's Cake captures the spirit of the celebration, generating sketches, and finally coming up with an amazing cake! They are all about details and precision- the architectural backgrounds help them to create the most incredible structures, using only gourmet products and fresh ingredients. UNIQUE specializes in creating edible scale models.  Recently they created a replica of "Villa Vecchia," a well-known mansion in Miami owned by Michael Saylor, with its balconies in white chocolate and gum paste palm trees, with intrinsic interior details including hand-painted tiles, one by one!
