United Communities Against Poverty, Inc. Celebrate Program Graduates
SUITLAND, Md., Feb. 17 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Twenty three Prince George's County residents will receive awards for receiving their General Education Diploma (GED), and completing Housing Counseling programs. The celebration will be held Thursday, February 18, 2010 at the Suitland Water Tank Recreational Center – 4211 Suitland Rd, Suitland, MD 20746 - beginning at 6:30 pm. The Guest speaker is Arthur A. Turner, Jr, Chairman, United Communities Against Poverty (UCAP).
A total of twenty three individuals will walk across stage including Shalisa Smith, Yessenia Mejia, and Perrie Williams who all passed the MD State General Development Test and received their GED. Eighteen (18) individuals completed either the First Time Homebuyer Program, pre-occupancy and financial literacy workshops; and two (2) completed the Microsoft Suite Office training and are now eligible to take their Microsoft Office Certification Test.
Office of Employment and Educational Services endeavor to empower participants to successfully enter the job market following periods of unemployment or sporadic work periods. This program serves Prince George's County Residents and provides support services to increase employment opportunities. The computer training program helps customers improve computer access, advance literacy, and prepares them to take advantage of employment opportunities. Adult Basic Education offers classes designed to prepare individuals to take the MD State General Development Test.
First-time Homebuyers Program (FTHB) provides program participates a face-to-face meeting with a housing counselor to: (1) see if home ownership is a viable option, (2) complete a debt analysis, and (3) calculate how much the customer can afford. The Housing Counseling Program provides financial management and budget counseling to those customers who are not eligible to receive financial assistance through UCAP.
