KNOXVILLE, Tenn., March 19, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Congressman John Duncan, Jr. (R-TN-02) joined the National Railroad Construction and Maintenance Association (NRC) for a tour of UNITRAC Railroad Material, Inc.'s headquarters and manufacturing facility in Knoxville, Tennessee on Monday, March 17.
UNITRAC's Knoxville facility is a full-service trackwork manufacturing facility specializing in manufactured trackwork, new and relay rail and the manufacture and distribution other track material and components. The company employs one hundred and forty-five workers and will be celebrating a notable twenty-fifth anniversary in the summer of 2014.
During the tour, Congressman Duncan joined rail industry representatives for an overview of UNITRAC's trackwork manufacturing operations and trackwork panel assembly yard. As a member of the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure's subcommittee on Railroads, Pipelines and Hazardous Materials, which helps to oversee the economic and safety regulation of railroads; it was important for UNITRAC to highlight their production and U.S. manufacturing operations and capabilities, which supply railroad operations throughout the nation.
Congressman Duncan praised the fourth generation family ownership stating that it "is extremely unusual in this day in age." Congressman Duncan went on to state, "I have toured every kind of business [that] you can think of in this area, and that's a wide variety, and I can tell you I don't believe I can find another business that has grown eight hundred percent in the last thirty years."
Glenn V. Healey, Owner of Healey Railroad Corporation and Raymond Lambert, President of UNITRAC state that the company has gone through tremendous growth in the past ten years; crediting first and foremost, "the hardworking people of the company." Lambert states, "we have the experience and we've got a good team...we still operate as a family business and do not forget where we came from. We decided that we wanted to be the best, and the team works in that fashion...our growth represents that. It's a matter of quality and delivery" which he says their customers count on. In a growing industry, UNITRAC has been able to respond to the increased demand and also credits the stimulus package for and up-tick in business.
With recent investments the company's U.S. manufacturing capabilities in the Knoxville facility and the opening of a new 5-acre facility in Granite City, Illinois; UNITRAC looks forward to continued growth. Duncan made it a point to state, "I think most people in the railroad industry don't toot their horn nearly enough," continuing to say "the economy is better, our environment is better when we are doing as much as we can with the railroad industry."
