United Technologies Joins White House Pledge to Act on Climate Change

FARMINGTON, Conn., Dec. 2, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX) has signed the American Business Act on Climate Pledge, joining the White House and more than 150 companies across the United States in pledging to lower carbon emissions.

"United Technologies has been a leader in sustainability and energy efficiency since we set baselines for our environmental performance goals three decades ago," UTC President and Chief Executive Officer Gregory Hayes said. "By joining the White House pledge, we are continuing that longstanding commitment to building a greener and more sustainable future."

As part of its climate pledge, UTC is extending its 30-year legacy of leadership by recommitting to its current trajectory of reducing carbon emissions by 80 percent before 2050. This initiative directly supports the goals of the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.

Other key aspects of UTC's climate action agenda include:

• Advancing the environmental sustainability and energy efficiency of UTC's technologies in its aerospace, food refrigeration and building products and systems to support sustainable urbanization across the world.
• Requiring that UTC's preferred suppliers annually reduce their operational environmental impacts, including greenhouse gas emissions.
• Engaging the global community to promote policies and initiatives that achieve energy efficiency and lower greenhouse gas emissions to ensure a sustainable future.
