United Way Worldwide Announces Appointment of Evan Hochberg as Chief Strategy Officer

ALEXANDRIA, Va., Sept. 16, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Brian Gallagher, CEO, United Way Worldwide, announced today that Evan Hochberg will join the organization on November 1, 2013, as the organization's first chief strategy officer.  Hochberg serves as National Director of Corporate Citizenship for Deloitte LLP, where he was responsible for the company's philanthropic portfolio and engineered its ground-breaking pro bono program and award-winning efforts in education. The appointment of Hochberg, a leader in the field of strategic philanthropy, signals the importance United Way is placing on operationalizing its collaborative approach to create a world where all individuals and families can achieve their human potential through education, income stability and healthy lives.

As chief strategy officer, Hochberg will lead United Way's community impact work by engaging with the 1,800 United Ways around the world and external partners to develop the organization's impact strategy and ensure it is effectively implemented across the network in 41 countries and territories. He will also lead the organization's community impact team, align all United Way operating divisions around strategy and direction and serve on the organization's executive management team.

Before joining Deloitte, Hochberg was the managing director of Community Wealth Partners, a leading consulting firm focused on driving transformational social impact by providing strategic and technical advice to nonprofits, corporations and foundations.

Hochberg has been mission-driven his entire life. While in high school he created his own credited course involving volunteerism and helped initiate the first-ever basketball program for the Special Olympics of Orange County North Carolina while an undergraduate at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. His early career included front line roles in the nonprofit sector at the March of Dimes and Melwood.

Hochberg received a bachelor's degree in philosophy from the UNC-CH and a master's in management of human services from the Heller School at Brandeis University. He lives in Rockville, Md., with his wife and two children.
