University of Windsor Replaces Existing LMS with Blackboard
University Selects Industry's Leading Learning Management Environment
WASHINGTON, June 16, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- The University of Windsor has selected Blackboard to power its online and blended learning platform for its 16,500 students, the company announced today.
The University will replace its current learning management system (LMS) with Blackboard's learning environment, citing the company's innovative product road map, industry leadership, and comprehensive student and faculty assessment tools as driving factors for the switch.
"We need to invest in technologies that facilitate new ways of teaching and learning and align with the strategic directions of the University," said Dr. Alan Wright, Vice-Provost, Teaching and Learning at the University of Windsor. "We also strive to provide our students with an education that equips them for the challenges they will face beyond the walls of the institute. Digital literacy, contemporary communication capabilities, and independent learning are all key elements of that preparation that Blackboard can help us facilitate."
"The power of the Blackboard platform will allow us to engage a new audience for our courses, and to support our students, who may be anywhere in the world, helping to break down the barriers of geography and access," said Bala Kathiresan, Executive Director, Information Technology Services. "With Blackboard's platform, instructors will be able to imagine and achieve new ways of engaging students with online and blended learning. Additionally, the platform leverages our Connecting Windsor EssexTM relationships as we build on St. Clair College's existing partnership with Blackboard."
The company will also provide consulting services and training to University officials and faculty to help implement best practices for platform implementation and delivery. The platform will also integrate seamlessly into the University's student information system (SIS) so student course and enrollment information will automatically, and conveniently, populate within the learning environment.
"We are seeing more and more institutions like the University of Windsor take a more strategic approach to their online learning environment and look beyond immediate needs and into what will be needed five or ten years down the road," said Maurice Heiblum, senior vice president of higher education for Blackboard. "This approach, along with a razor-sharp focus on student success, runs parallel to how we approach our product and solutions development. There is great synergy with this partnership and we are excited to work with such a forward-thinking university."
