UNYQ Align™ Scoliosis Brace Selected for Permanent Display at New York City's Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum
Integrated Scoliosis Management Platform Available in Select Centers Nationwide
NEW YORK, May 18, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Approximately 7 million children and adults in the United States live with irregular curvature of the spine, according to the National Scoliosis Foundation. One barrier to successful treatment is the prescribed 18+ hours a day bracing requirement. UNYQ, a pioneer in personalized prosthetics and orthopedic braces, focuses on fashionable, 3D-printed treatment solutions that patients will wear.
The UNYQ Align™ scoliosis brace, a collaboration with New York City generative design firm Studio Bitonti, was first introduced at a September 2016 White House showcase on adaptive technologies. The minimalistic brace has been selected for permanent display at the Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum.
June's National Scoliosis Awareness Month offers timely introduction of the latest addition to UNYQ Align which integrates a first-of-its-kind scoliosis treatment technology. Available June 1 in select pilot centers across the U.S., Align software enables seamless scanning, modeling and 3D printing of a custom, fashionable brace.
UNYQ CEO Eythor Bender, said, "We believe fashion is the platform that all wearers understand and look to for a sense of self and individuality. We are honored that our work with Studio Bitonti is being recognized at the Smithsonian and are equally excited to announce the digital modeling platform, which represents an evolution in scoliosis care."
Francis Bitonti, CEO of Bitonti Studios, added, "With UNYQ Align, we removed what used to be a cumbersome hand-molding fabrication process and replaced it with topographic anatomical analysis and 3D printing capabilities. This significantly changes the brace fit, function and wearability. It is wonderful to have the minimal UNYQ Align brace on display to showcase such an important integration of fashion, technology and design."
