UPDATE: 2nd Annual Nexus Global Youth Summit Set For September 19-22 In New York City
NEW YORK, Sept. 18, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- CORRECTION: This is a corrected Release to note the change in the panel now entitled "How Sports and Media Impact Global Society" presented by Isiah Thomas and Amare Stoudemire.
More than 400 young philanthropists, social entrepreneurs and potential investors, representing 50 countries, will gather in New York City from September 19-22, 2012 for the 2nd annual Nexus Global Youth Summit. The goal is simple: to serve as a network for the next generation of wealthy to come together, discuss, and create ways of transforming social entrepreneurship on a global scale.
The Nexus comes at a time when generational shifts are more important than ever, as an estimated $59 trillion will be handed down from older to younger generations by 2050, according to a Boston College Report. Despite the arrival of new wealth in younger hands, venues to inspire and engage the next generation of philanthropy remain limited.
The Nexus Global Youth Summit looks to focus on a diverse slate of international issues by engaging in dialogue on the systemic problems and potential solutions that face our world. Panel discussion will include: "After the Spring: The coming of age of Arab youth" hosted by Ghanem Nuseibeh and Seeta Faisal; "How Sports and Media Impact Global Society", with Isiah Thomas and Amare Stoudemire; "Philanthropy and Learning" with Cindy McCain; "Technology and Social Entrepreneurship 2.0" with Matt Mahan, and Khaliyah Aga Khan, among many others.
The preliminary findings of a Global Report on Tax Incentives for Philanthropy by McDermott Will and Emory LLP will be announced at the Summit. It will serve as a benchmark for the Summit to encourage new legislation and mobilize support for a new UN Resolution calling for a Global Campaign for a Culture of Philanthropy.
Last year's summit inspired more than $10 million in philanthropic donations and helped launch dozens of new partnerships and initiatives. They range from Satisfeito, a global restaurant and social responsibility campaign in Brazil, to the Common Ground Donor Network, a group of Republican and Democrat philanthropists seeking common ground on policy issues.
