U.S. Anesthesia Partners Hosts Unique Future Leaders in Anesthesia Conference
Hundreds of anesthesiology medical students attend summit to prepare for success in a vitally important medical field
Event will be held Sept. 12-14 in Austin, Texas
DALLAS, Sept. 3, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- U.S. Anesthesia Partners, Inc. (USAP), will hold its third-annual Future Leaders in Anesthesia (FLA) conference at the Hotel Van Zandt in Austin, Texas, from Sept. 12-14. The conference will coach future anesthesiologists and nurse anesthetists (CRNAs) on how to navigate the fast-changing and in-demand profession of anesthesia.
More than 200 physician residents and CRNA students from 27 states in addition to Washington D.C. and Puerto Rico will attend the event as guests of USAP, where they will learn about their future professions from expert clinicians in the field.
Half of the conference will be devoted to physician residents, with the other half focusing on future CRNAs.
"USAP is the only anesthesia practice in the country to host a leadership summit for those entering the field of anesthesiology," said Matt Maloney, M.D., President of Clinical Operations at USAP. "As practicing medicine becomes more complex, those entering the field must have a robust understanding of their profession, both clinically and from a business perspective. Their leadership skills will be increasingly important to the teams they lead and the patients they serve."
Topics for the physician resident attendees will include sessions on hemostatic resuscitation, the business of anesthesia, workplace culture and clinical quality. The CRNA student sessions also will cover the business of anesthesia, along with how to prepare for the national certification exam and navigate their critical first year in the workforce.
Sessions will be led by top USAP personnel, including Dr. Richard Dutton (Chief Quality Officer), Dr. Mo Azam (Head of Innovation), Dr. Kelly LeBlanc (Chief of Anesthesia at Houston Methodist Cypress Hospital), Dr. Matt Maloney (President of Clinical Operations), Ray Ramos (Central Texas Chief CRNA) and Bree Brown (North Texas Chief CRNA).
The United States is suffering from an acute and growing shortage of anesthesia clinicians, causing increased surgery waiting lists, especially in intensive care and emergency room settings.
The number of medical facilities reporting an anesthesia staffing shortage more than doubled to 78 percent from 35 percent between 2020 and late 2022. By 2033, 22 percent of anesthesia providers are projected to leave the workforce, further straining health systems as demand for surgeries rises. The U.S. Health Resources & Services Administration projects a shortage of 8,450 anesthesiologists by 2037.
USAP has sought to address this critical need by identifying promising physician residents and CRNA students and arming them with information on topics not typically addressed in their clinical training but necessary for their success in a rapidly evolving health care environment.
"The goal is to provide useful guidance and insight to the next generation of leaders in the field of anesthesia, further preparing them for a successful post-graduate profession, with the ultimate goal of improved patient care and career satisfaction," said Neal Grabarkewitz, Senior Vice President, Talent Acquisition at USAP.
In addition to the yearly national FLA conference, USAP holds regional events for students, including one for 55 CRNA students in Chicago in June which was covered by Crain's Chicago Business.
