FRIDAY, JANUARY 22: WESTERN STOCK SHOW
Profile America — Friday, January 22nd. Two of the nation's largest and oldest livestock shows are under way now in Denver and Fort Worth. The National Western Stock Show and Rodeo in Denver is expected to have drawn 650,000 people by the time it closes this Sunday. And in Fort Worth, close to a million people will jam the Southwestern Exposition Livestock Show and Rodeo, which ends February 7th. Both shows feature pageantry, carnival rides, entertainment, and a top-drawer rodeo, as well as thousands of head of livestock — including beef and dairy cattle, as well as horses, donkeys, mules, and many other animals. There are nearly 97 million head of cattle on U.S. farms and ranches, along with 65 million hogs and pigs, and more than 6 million sheep. Profile America is in its 13th year as a public service of the U.S. Census Bureau.
