SATURDAY, JUNE 5: COMPLETING THE COUNT
Profile America — Saturday, June 5th. Imagine the job of counting some 309 million people. Not only that, but they live in more than 120 million households, from mansions to trailers, in major cities and in sparsely settled rural areas. A majority of people have returned their 2010 Census forms as requested, by mid April. What's happening now is that some 700,000 census takers are visiting every household in the nation that did not mail back its census form. The goal is to count everyone. Only a complete census is worth basing important decisions on — such as how to properly apportion some $400 billion in federal funds each year. So, if you are visited by a census taker, answer the 10 basic questions on the 2010 Census — it only takes about 10 minutes.
Profile America is produced by the Public Information Office of the U.S. Census Bureau. These daily features are available as produced segments, ready to air, on a monthly CD or on the Internet at http://www.census.gov (look for "Multimedia Gallery" by the "Newsroom" button).
