TUESDAY, MARCH 16: TEN MOST WANTED CRIMINALS
Profile America — Tuesday, March 16th. The FBI's famous "Ten Most Wanted Fugitives" list is 60 years old this week. The list was initiated to inform the public about especially dangerous criminals at large in their midst. Between 1950 and 2009, 494 fugitives appeared on the list. Of these, 463 have been located. The only way off the list is either death or capture. In updating the list, the FBI cooperates with the producers of the television program "America's Most Wanted." While many categories of crime are down, there are still over 1.4 million violent crimes each year in the U.S., and close to 10 million property crimes. You can find these and more facts about America from the U.S. Census Bureau, conducting the 2010 Census beginning April 1st.
