SATURDAY, MAY 1: CENSUS TAKERS BEGIN WORK
Profile America — Saturday, May 1st. While Census Day was a month ago, the 2010 Census is still being conducted. In March, most households received their census forms in the mail. If they did not fill them out and mail them back, they will receive a visit from a census taker — who will ask the 10 simple questions at the door in an interview that takes only about 10 minutes. Up to 50 million homes may be involved. About 700,000 census takers will be visiting homes across America in the next few months to ensure everyone is counted. The more complete the count is in your community, the more it will receive its fair share of over $400 billion in federal programs, distributed according to census figures. With this broadcast, Profile America enters its 14th year as a public service of the U.S. Census Bureau.
