TUESDAY, MAY 11: GLACIER PARK'S 100TH
Profile America - Tuesday, May 11th. One of the nation's great treasures - Glacier National Park - was established 100 years ago today in northwest Montana on the Canadian border. Now called Waterton-Glacier International Peace Park, the area was dedicated jointly by the governments of the U.S. and Canada in 1932. To stress its importance, it has been named as a world heritage site. The famous Going-to-the-Sun Road which crosses the mountains, has been named a national historic landmark. Glacier National Park is one of the crown jewels of the national park system, which is made up of nearly 79 million acres. It's various facilities are visited annually by 275 million people.
