SATURDAY, MAY 8: OLDER AMERICANS MONTH
Profile America — Saturday, May 8th. As Americans live longer, the problems of financing their retirement and paying their medical bills continue to make headlines. But the growing number of healthy seniors also means opportunities. Both the problems and opportunities are in the spotlight in May — it's Older Americans Month. There are nearly 40 million people aged 65 and older in the U.S., 13 percent of the population. By the year 2050, the number of elderly is projected to be 88.5 million. About one-in-six seniors is still in the labor force and close to one-in-four is a military veteran. Eight-out-of-10 older Americans own their homes and this demographic group is the least likely to move. You can find these and more facts about America from the U.S. Census Bureau, online at www.census.gov.
