U.S. Dancers Perform in Joint Russian-American Ballet Festival in St. Petersburg, Russia
The International Youth Ballet Festival celebrates International Dance Day under the auspices of UNESCO, on April 29
NEW YORK, May 2, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Through groundbreaking cooperation of Russian and American arts organizations, eleven ballet dancers and teachers from the United States and Taipei, Taiwan arrived in St. Petersburg, Russia to participate and perform in the 10 day International Youth Ballet Festival, April 21 - April 30. The Festival supports emerging ballet dancers striving to become professional ballet artists and ballet teachers who have exceptional professional development opportunities not usually available to them.
Oleg Vinogradov, Kirov Ballet Artistic Director Emeritus and Festival Artistic Director/Coordinator of faculty, directs the performances. Dancers performed on April 29 (International Dance Day) at the St. Petersburg University of the Humanities and Social Sciences followed by a Gala Performance on April 30 at the St. Petersburg Music Hall Theater. Performances were made possible through special international cooperation: Oleg Vinogradov Foundation for the Preservation and Development of Classical Ballet, St. Petersburg, Russia; N.A. Rimsky-Korsakov St. Petersburg State Conservatory; St. Petersburg University of the Humanities and Social Sciences; St. Petersburg Music Hall Theater and Classical Dance Alliance, Inc., New York, NY USA.
Participants study Classical Dance (ballet), Historical Dance, Character Dance to further their knowledge and career opportunities. Teachers included: Ilya Kuznetsov, Director of Kuznetsov's Children Ballet School, former principal dancer, Mariinsky Theater; Georgy Dzevulsky, Konstantin Chuvashev and Natalia Bashkirtseva, all Ballet Masters of the Ballet Theater of the St. Petersburg Conservatory (Vinogradov, Artistic Director). Bashkirtseva is a Merited Artist of the Russian Federation.
Designed to take place in both Russia and the United States, the U.S. Festival begins in St. Augustine, FL, June 23 - July 2 with Gala Performance, July 2 and is open to dedicated ballet dancers, teachers and students from any country.
