U.S. General Services Administration Selects Savvis Cloud for IT Services Storefront

ST. LOUIS, Oct. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Savvis Federal Systems, a subsidiary of Savvis, Inc. (Nasdaq: SVVS), has been awarded a contract by the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) to provide cloud computing to federal, state, local and tribal government organizations.

Savvis is one of just 11 vendors selected to provide on-demand Infrastructure-as-a-services (IaaS), including virtual machines and Web hosting, through the GSA's Cloud IT Services storefront at Apps.gov.

Through Apps.gov, government agencies will be able to procure Savvis Symphony Virtual Private Data Center (VPDC), Savvis' signature enterprise-class cloud computing services. Savvis Symphony VPDC allows users to quickly and securely design and deploy a complete set of enterprise-class data center services for a variety of applications. There is no need to physically procure, install, configure or manage any hardware.

With enterprise-class security, quality of service and service-level agreements, Savvis Symphony VPDC meets the needs of Web hosting, mission-critical, test and development, and other applications.

According to the GSA, the government spends tens of billions of dollars on IT products and services each year, with a heavy focus on maintaining current infrastructure needs and demands. A major element of every federal agency's IT infrastructure includes storage, computer power and website hosting. Cloud computing, the organization notes, could allow agencies to realize cost savings, efficiencies and modernization and expand their existing infrastructures without having to rely on capital resources.
