U.S. Housing and Urban Development Secretary Holds Press Conference at Northeast Building Products Plant
PHILADELPHIA, April 5 /PRNewswire/ -- The U.S. Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, Shaun Donovan, visited Northeast Building Products last Friday, where he addressed the company's employees and took an hour long tour of the window and door production facility. Also taking the tour and participating in the event were Pennsylvania Governor Edward Rendell, Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter, Philadelphia Housing Authority Executive Director Carl Greene, and several other local and state government officials.
Philadelphia based Northeast Building Products Corp. is a manufacturer of ultra energy-efficient windows and doors, and was most recently in the news as the window company cited by President Obama in his first State of the Union Address. The company has experienced tremendous growth over the last year, adding 100 employees and expanding its production facilities to over 225,000 square feet. Northeast Building Products has been singled-out by the Obama Administration as an example of how U.S. government clean energy investments under the Recovery Act had not only helped create jobs, but was helping the U.S. curb greenhouse gas emissions by promoting the use of energy-efficient technologies.
Speaking at the press conference Friday, Secretary Donovan reiterated President Obama's commitment to "Making green building an engine of economic growth… and to lowering greenhouse gas emissions and energy costs." According to Alan Levin, president and CEO of Northeast Building Products: "We share President Obama's vision for a greener America. By producing high performance, ultra energy-efficient windows, we are able to play our part by providing products that help consumers reduce their energy consumption and save money through energy tax credits."
