This market comprises three product segments that use different delivery methods: articulated arm lasers, fiber-delivered lasers and direct delivery lasers. Products that fall within these two categories can also be differentiated by the type of laser technology used: Er:YAG lasers and Er,Cr:YSGG lasers, respectively. The total all-tissue dental laser market is expected to grow significantly and exhibit a CAGR of 10.6% over the forecast period, primarily driven by sales of both articulated arm and fiber-delivered laser systems. All-tissue lasers are predominantly Er:YAG lasers which allow the dentist to decrease the need to use anesthesia during the process, leaving the patient with a tingling sensation but little to no pain. Especially in the removal of tooth decay, this method has proven to be effective and non-intrusive. However, these advantages of all-tissue lasers are outweighed by the high initial cost of investment. High cost and inexpensive alternatives, such as traditional tooth decay removal methods, significantly limited the market value and growth of the all-tissue laser market. Additionally, since conventional rotary instruments, such as the drill, cannot fully be replaced by all-tissue lasers yet, the market growth will be quite modest. As this technology improves and scientific evidence points to the possibility of truly removing the drill from dental offices with all-tissue lasers as a replacement, these lasers will become the norm. However, this process is expected to be slow and gradual, keeping the all-tissue laser market a niche area throughout the forecast period.
Abstract
All-tissue lasers are systems that can be used on both soft and hard tissue in the intraoral cavity. These lasers have unique clinical characteristics that surpass conventional tools such as scalpel and drill, thus having the potential to decrease the use of such tools and to create a high-tech atmosphere around the dental chair. Minimally invasive equipment makes patients much more comfortable, increases the efficiency and therefore the return on investment for the dentist. Even though all-tissue lasers are fairly expensive investments for dentists, the short and long term benefits can quickly outweigh the initial expenditures, making them a valuable addition to dental practices.
