Usain Bolt and Foursquare Co-Founders Join CampInteractive's ING New York City Marathon Team
NEW YORK, Nov. 3, 2010 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- CampInteractive, a nonprofit organization serving inner city youth in the Bronx, has a 14-member team running in the New York City Marathon Sunday, November 7. The team is working to raise $140,000 for CampInteractive programs through Crowdrise, the online fundraising platform started by Edward Norton (www.crowdrise.com/teaminteractive/fundraiser/campinteractive).
Jamaican sprinter and Olympic and World Championship gold medalist Usain Bolt has signed on as honorary team captain. In addition to holding three Olympic and World records, he has done much to improve the lives of kids. This is the first time Bolt is working in this way with a U.S. charity. "I decided to support CampInteractive's team of runners in the New York City Marathon because they are running for inner city youth," Bolt said. "CampInteractive provides opportunities for kids to have access to technology and participate in sports activities, which make a huge difference in their lives," Bolt added.
Among the team runners are Foursquare Co-Founders Dennis Crowley and Naveen Selvadurai. Foursquare is the hot new social networking website and mobile device application. Naveen explained his participation on the CampInteractive team, saying, "I had great role models and mentors growing up. It's helped shaped me into who I am today so I think it's important to support programs like CampInteractive."
CampInteractive's mission is to take kids on outdoor sports and nature expeditions and teach them to use technology to document and share their experiences via websites, blogs and social media.
