Van Beek Natural Science's Patented Active Compound in DiaGel Offers one Dose Natural Cure for Pet Bacterial Diarrhea
ORANGE CITY, Iowa, April 14, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Ron Van Beek, president and CEO of Van Beek Natural Science, announced that research conducted at Iowa State University confirmed that the patented active compound, Axaphen, in DiaGel eliminates bacteria on contact.
Axaphen was tested using techniques such as broth microdilution testing, disk diffusion, and traditional microbiological plating. Through this work, Dr. Brehm-Stecher's group has identified Axaphen as a highly active antimicrobial. In Iowa State's in vitro tests, Axaphen has shown increased action against a wide variety of organisms, including gram-positive bacteria, gram-negative bacteria, and pathogenic yeasts.
"DiaGel is a fast, effective natural alternative to higher price pharmaceuticals to cure bacterial diarrhea in dogs and cats. Axaphen, the patented active compound we use in DiaGel, has been shown in clinical trials to eliminate bacteria in one administration and produce firm stools within 24 hours," said Van Beek, adding, "Our new microencapsulation technology makes the DiaGel formula highly palatable, too."
Bacterial diarrhea in pets can be caused by diet and/or water changes, diet indiscretions, environment changes and stress. DiaGel, administered orally, eliminates bacteria such as E. coli and Salmonella, which occur naturally in the GI tract. DiaGel also contains pectins and psyllium husks to soothe the GI tract and slow down the digestive process. Tannins in DiaGel prevent bacteria from adhering to the intestinal wall, while antioxidants bind to and neutralize free radicals.
Van Beek said, "Because DiaGel is a natural treatment, it can be administered to pets of all ages and in conjunction with other therapies, such as fluid therapy, endotoxin therapy, or antibiotics, to treat secondary infections associated with other causes of diarrhea. It can also be administered 2 hours prior to stress-inducing events, such as boarding, breeding, traveling and showing, to help reduce the incidence of diarrhea."
DiaGel's single administration syringes are sold in individually packaged peel-and-pull pouches and only through veterinarians. For more information about Van Beek Natural Science, please visit www.vanbeeknaturalscience.com.
