Vattenfall recognized for harnessing information to reduce total energy loss
SAN MATEO, Calif., May 10, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- eMeter Corporation, a leader in Smart Grid management software, today announced that Vattenfall Finland has received eMeter's 2011 Innovation Award.
Vattenfall is Europe's fifth largest generator of electricity and the largest producer of heat. Vattenfall's core markets are Sweden, Germany and the Netherlands. Vattenfall also operates in United Kingdom, Poland, Belgium, Denmark and Finland. The operations mainly involve power generation, sales to commercial and private customers, electricity trading on the power markets, distribution, grid and district heating.
Vattenfall's award was announced at the 2011 eMeter Leadership Conference, taking place May 9-11, 2011 at the Fairmont Hotel in San Francisco. The eMeter Leadership Conference brings together industry leaders in Smart Meter data management to discuss current trends and best practices, share ideas and experiences, and connect with like-minded professionals.
Vattenfall's vision is to develop an environmentally sustainable energy production future coupled with a desire to improve operational and energy efficiency along with customer satisfaction. As an important step in this process, eMeter's EnergyIP was chosen by Vattenfall Finland to support the creation of new services for customers and other stakeholders.
Vattenfall utilizes automated AMR meters for controlling and monitoring a low voltage network for operational excellence and service transparency for 395,000 Finnish customers. To gain a new level of delivery quality for distribution customers, innovative eMeter solutions enable the proactive information gathering to support the prioritization of network investments. The eMeter EnergyIP platform also gives insights into their meter data management system to reduce total energy loss.
Over the past few years Vattenfall has put a great focus on innovation that results in new energy efficient services for customers along with more precise network planning and construction. The eMeter 2011 Innovation Award is testimony to what a utility can accomplish with the right technology in place.
Vattenfall uses the eMeter to provide customers with a web-based service to monitor their electricity consumption on hourly-basis. This insight reduces electricity consumption and achieving more stable levels of consumption so customers save money on their electricity bill.
The number of visitors in the service since its launch in May 2010 has exceeded all expectations with 97 percent of customers willing to recommend it to others. Customers indicated that they are more energy efficient due to the information they now have access to. Vattenfall also uses eMeter to validate AMR meter data to ensure the high quality of their Automated Meter Infrastructure (AMI) data.
"When evaluating organizations for our 2011 eMeter Innovation Award, the new customer services that Vattenfall's vision has yielded makes them a stand out candidate for this award," said Gary Bloom, chief executive officer at eMeter.
