Veolia Prepares to Celebrate the Successful Utilisation of Solar Power at Arndell Park
On February 23rd, Veolia Environmental Services will celebrate the successful utilisation of solar power at its Arndell Park facility in NSW. A 50 kW solar panel system was recently installed at the facility and complements the various environmental initiatives that have already been implemented on site.
SYDNEY, Feb. 16, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Additionally, the project supports Veolia Environmental Services goals to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, energy expenses and increase generation of renewable energy.
"The launch of our solar panel project is an exciting development for Veolia Environmental Services. This project further solidifies our commitment to reducing our environmental impact through the utilisation of alternative energy sources." Danny Conlon, GM – Veolia Environmental Services, NSW.
The installation comprises of 228 panels on tilt frames to maximise sun exposure and is estimated to produce 65 MWh annually. This $550,000 project has been managed by BP Solar and installed by Solar Technology and is part of the Blacktown Solar City project; a $94 million Australian Government initiative to help lay the foundations of a sustainable energy future.
Mr. Conlon further commented, "As one of Australia's largest waste management and recycling services companies, our focus is to provide solutions for our customers that reduce waste-related environmental impacts. Whilst we help organisations to improve their sustainability performance, we are also committed to ensuring that we as a Company are also doing our best to manage and minimise our environmental footprint."
"The utilisation of solar power complements other sustainability initiatives we have enacted including the implementation of water saving and recycling systems, and a state-wide focus on reducing our waste-to-landfill rates."
When considering that 50kW of Solar Panels will abate approximately 70 tonnes of CO2 each year; the equivalent of taking around 17 cars off the road each year and producing enough energy to power more than 10 homes for a year, Veolia's utilisation solar powered energy is a huge achievement, and a great example of environmental sustainability for other organisations within the Commercial sector.
The launch event will be held from 11am at Veolia's facility located at 34 Lidco St, and will be attended by Dr. Gary Richards, Assistant Secretary for the Department of Climate Change and Energy Efficiency, special guests and key Veolia personnel.
