NEW YORK, Jan. 26, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Get content from European Parliament at:
An immediate EU-wide ban on the export of lethal injection drugs was called today in Brussels after British NGO Reprieve revealed that a UK based company supplied the state of Arizona with the drugs needed for an execution. Claude Moraes, S&D spokesperson on civil liberties, called on European Commission vice president Vivianne Reding, in charge of fundamental rights, and on international trade commissioner, Karel De Gucht, to reaffirm the EU's fierce rejection of any support of death penalty and to promote a EU-wide ban on this unacceptable export of death. According to Clive Stafford Smith, the director of British NGO Reprieve, which has been denouncing Dream Pharma's activities since last October, it is now sure that Dream Pharma has exported drugs to at least 4 states, and sufficient to kill more than 100 people.
