"Over 90 per cent of the world's heroin comes from poppies grown in Afghanistan." The trade generates vast amounts of money – at least some of which funds the insurgency. But now there is evidence that Afghans themselves are taking on the illegal industry. Stored inside this warehouse at the police station in Lashka Gah are hundreds of litres and kilos of chemicals, all seized in recent raids. These are the substances used to transform the raw product of poppy fields into the narcotics consumed on every continent - and within Afghanistan itself. It is evidence that will be used in court, as Lt Col Abdul Qaedar, the head of the counter-narcotics Police in Lashka Gah explains.
