Video from Speedo and Synaptic Digital: Speedo at 14th FINA World Swimming Championships in Shanghai

NEW YORK, July 18, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Launched to coincide with the 14th FINA World Championships in Shanghai, China, Speedo has premiered a new short film starring Michael Phelps.

Made in his home city of Baltimore, Maryland, USA, the film recounts Michael's journey from a 7-year-old afraid to put his face in the water to a 15-year-old world record breaker, and beyond into the swimming phenomenon he is today.

In the video, Michael is shown returning to Meadowbrook Pool where he learned to swim, and where, through the Michael Phelps Foundation and Michael Phelps Swim Schools, he now introduces children to swimming and promotes water safety.

 A 30 second version of the film is being shown on big screens within Shanghai's Oriental Sports Center for the duration of the championships from July 16th–31st, 2011.

 The film sees Michael share his story as Speedo looks for swimmers to sign up to www.unforgettableswims.com, a new online community which allows swimmers to upload their stories of memorable moments in the water.

 The launch of the video is just part of Speedo's activity during the Championships, which also sees the launch of the new 'Michael Phelps: Push The Limit' game for Xbox Kinect, which can be played for the first time by spectators at the Oriental Sports Center ahead of its release in October. 

Additionally, as an official partner of FINA (Federation Internationale de Natation), the world governing body of aquatics sports, Speedo enjoys unique poolside access and exclusive press opportunities for its sponsored athletes and national teams competing in Shanghai.

Over 2,000 athletes are competing at the 14th FINA World Championships, which take in the full spectrum of aquatics sports, including swimming, open water swimming, synchronised swimming, diving and water polo.

The event is being broadcast across the world to an estimated audience of 3.5 billion.
