On October 29 2011, the Volvo Ocean Race will start in the city of Alicante, Spain, the home of the new Volvo Ocean Race Headquarters. The old maritime station, fully equipped for the next three editions of the race with high-tech installations and the NASA inspired Race Control, was inaugurated by Francisco Camps, President of the Generalitat Valenciana (GVA) on July 5 2010.
In September 2010, the offices officially opened with the completion of the Race Control room. With one year to go for the start of the race, the Volvo Ocean Race teams are already preparing for the start in Alicante. Team Groupama sailed into the Port of Alicante on October 24 2010 to prepare for next year's race start. Available material includes soundbites of Heather Sherer on the challenge ahead and how - for the organisation - the race has already started as well as general views.
