VIDEO from UNICEF Available on thenewsmarket.com: UNICEF HAITI EARTHQUAKE ONE-YEAR: A New Programme Helps Victims Support Their Children Through Income-Generating Activities
NEW YORK, Jan. 1, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- See video from UNICEF at:
Joseph Charles * is a father to three girls, two of them are 12 year old twins. He is a rice farmer who made a very modest income till the earthquake completely flattened his house and left him and his family with no shelter nor means with which to buy food or water. Without any income, Joseph and his family were under extreme pressure. So when Joseph was given an offer to send his girls to a local residential centre, he accepted, knowing that the children would be provided for with the basics like food, water and shelter. In an effort to address situations like this, UNICEF and its partners embarked on a project aimed at long term and sustainable solutions for families who felt they had no other option but to give up their children.* The names of the people mentioned in this story have been changed for their privacy.
