Vidient Selected as Finalist in 2010 American Security Challenge

SUNNYVALE, Calif., Oct. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Vidient Systems, the technology leader for advanced video analytics, announced that it has been selected as a finalist in the 2010 American Security Challenge (ASC), an annual technology contest that brings innovators from around the country together to collaborate and support the best security technologies devoted to long-term national security.  SmartCatch, Vidient's flagship analytics solution, was recognized as a leader in next-generation video analytics through its ability to combine computer self-learning with human feedback to create the most accurate and versatile system available.

Vidient has successfully addressed one of the most challenging problems in video analytics: how to adapt to the virtually unlimited array of visual and environmental conditions, while maintaining high detection and low false positive rates.  The solution is based on a patent-pending self-learning algorithm which, with only an indication from the user of whether an alarm is true or false, adapts the software to the specific environment.  As a result, SmartCatch delivers high accuracy even in the most challenging, dynamic and diverse visual environments.  Rail and highway tunnels illustrate the benefit of this approach.  Traditional analytics solutions can generate hundreds of false alarms per hour resulting from the motion of the trains or cars and the appearance of people within them.  Conversely, in actual customer installations across hundreds of cameras, SmartCatch consistently delivers the highest detection rates in the industry with few false alarms.  Customers benefit through greater security and liability protection, faster implementation and more efficient operations.

Department of Homeland Security chose Vidient to provide advanced intelligent video analysis solutions for security protection of its Washington DC facilities.  The SmartCatch solution will automatically detect unauthorized intrusions in real-time and immediately inform security personnel, so response actions can be taken.  The system increases security protection without the need for officers to constantly monitor the video feeds.  

Los Angeles Metro selected Vidient as a key element of a major upgrade to its security systems.  SmartCatch will automatically and intelligently monitor track and tunnel areas within Metro stations for security and safety breaches.  With existing large installations at Montreal Metro, St. Louis Metro, Amtrak and Southeastern Pennsylvania Transit Authority (SEPTA), Vidient's SmartCatch application was the natural choice for this critical project.
