ViewPoint Bank Employees Teach Classes on Responsible Credit Use to Area Teens

PLANO, Texas, Oct. 20, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- In recognition of National Get Smart About Credit Day today, ViewPoint Bank employees are teaching classes in area schools and community groups about the fundamentals of credit and wise credit practices.

"Given what we're seeing in the economy, it's more important than ever for people of all ages to learn about responsible credit habits," says ViewPoint Bank President and CEO Gary Base. "I'm proud of our ongoing participation in financial literacy campaigns designed to help the children in our neighborhood schools make sound financial choices as adults."

The credit classes are happening throughout the month, not just for one day—and not just for kids. In fact, the bank kicked off the campaign last month at the Network of Community Ministries with an interactive workshop on credit and budgeting for the non-profit's low-income clients. Eight adults participated in the workshops that provided basic tools needed to gain control of money.

This month, more than 400 students at four area schools will attend the classes, which cover not only credit card usage, but also student loans and car loans. On October 14, employees taught at Williams High School in Plano. The dates and locations of the remaining classes are as follows:

October 21: Lewisville High School; Lewisville
October 28: Clark High School; Plano
November 11: Bowman Middle School; Plano

Get Smart About Credit Day is an annual event where bankers visit local classrooms to share with students the "credit facts of life."
