Village HeartB.E.A.T. Tackles Local Obesity Epidemic Through Collaborative Healthy Kids & Families Event

Hundreds expected to attend festive event aimed to teach and adopt healthy behaviors in time for summer

CHARLOTTE, N.C., April 28, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Village HeartB.E.A.T., a Mecklenburg County Public Health initiative, the McCrorey YMCA and the Charlotte Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta, Inc., present the Healthy Kids and Families Community Day featuring Field Day on Saturday, April 29^th at 8:30 a.m. This half-day event features educational workshops, community vendors, healthy refreshments, and field events. The free event is expected to draw more than 500 participants.

Village HeartB.E.A.T. is one of 50 finalists in the national Healthy Cities & Counties Challenge. The Challenge lead partner, Aetna Foundation, will be onsite to deliver opening remarks.

"This is a day to inspire our community's minds and bodies to remain active," said Cheryl Emanuel, the creator of VHB and Senior Health Manager of Mecklenburg County Public Health states. "We're looking forward to a fun event and hope that people will walk away with new ideas and tips for good health."

Other partners include Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation and Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department. The event takes place on Saturday, April 29, 2017 from 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. at the McCrorey YMCA (3801 Beatties Ford Road, Charlotte, NC 28216).
