VIP Communications Releases 2012 Africa Cup of Nations Expat Survey Report

ASHBURN, Va., Jan. 19, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- VIP Communications, Inc., a leading provider of international calling services and solutions, today announced the official release of its 2012 Africa Cup of Nations Survey Report, which provides an inside look at the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations, which starts January 21, 2012.

VIP Communications solicited feedback on a variety of questions from more than 2,000 expat customers. The survey addressed several buzzworthy questions and topics heading into this month's competition, including which teams, players and storylines were capturing the attention of African expats.

Among the most notable highlights from the report are:

• Ghana Favored to Win Cup: Respondents clearly favor Ghana to win this year's African Cup of Nations, as 56 percent predict they will take home the championship. Ivory Coast follows with 18.6 percent and Morocco with 12.3 percent.
• Angola Predicted as Greatest Underdogs:  If any underdog team was to make a run in the Cup of Nations, perhaps no team would be more surprising to expats than Angola. Only 1.3 percent of respondents predicted a Cup win for Angola. Senegal finished behind Angola in the underdog category, with only 5.3 percent of expats predicting a win for that nation. 
• Do Red Cards Influence Wins?: When asked which country would receive the most red cards, the overwhelming majority said Morocco and Senegal. Senegal is projected to be one of the two biggest underdogs in the competition. Could this be a direct reflection of the number of penalties fans assume Senegal will receive? In addition, fans believe that Ghana and Ivory Coast, the two teams that received the most votes to win the Cup, will receive the least amount of red cards.
• 1-on-1 Basketball Against Obama More Appealing to Expats than Playing Keep Ball with Drogba: According to the survey, most respondents believe Didier Drogba from Ivory Coast will win the MVP of the 2012 African Cup of Nations. However, when asked if they would rather play 1-on-1 basketball with President Obama or play keep ball with Drogba, 14.4 percent said they would rather play basketball and 8 percent would rather play keep ball. Despite this, 73.2 percent overall said they would prefer to watch their country win the African Cup of Nations.
