NEW YORK, July 22, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Vizo, a New York City technology company, today unveiled a unique mobile app that delivers quick, visual rundowns of trending headlines, based on reader interests gleaned by Vizo's unique algorithm. The app launched today on the iTunes App Store for iPhone and Google Play store for Android devices.
Vizo has raised over $1 million from a combination of angel investors in the US and Israel as well as family and friends. At launch, Vizo's app will be preinstalled on all Huawei mobile devices sold in Israel, delivering the news to customers of the one of the largest mobile providers in the world.
According to the American Press Institute, nearly eight in 10 U.S. smartphone users get their news primarily via a mobile device. Yet, fully a third tend to read only headlines or just snippets of stories. To meet the needs of this growing demographic, Vizo created the app to make the news more accessible and inviting. When prompted for updates, it delivers a "reader's digest" of trending stories in less than five minutes.
Vizo encapsulates myriad stories from hundreds of trusted news sources including Bloomberg News, The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, Reuters, BBC, and Fortune, among other top media outlets.
"In today's time-crunched environment, most adults, particularly Millennials, want to be informed but want to read only the news that interests them the most and in condensed form," said Vizo co-founder Gillis Baxter. "Vizo does that, while also delivering the news in a memorable visual fashion, driving readers to the most relevant stories based on their past reading habits."
Vizo condenses each story into a format called a Glance, which is a single, impactful image and text summary that fits entirely on your screen. By swiping through Glances, users can quickly absorb the latest images and headlines in a matter of seconds.
- Glances: to-the-point news summaries
- Customization: A newspaper tailored to your reading needs
- Offline Mode: News always on – no Internet connection needed
- Trending News: Business, Politics, Sports, Art & Culture, Technology, Politics, U.S., World
