VizZle® Wins Prestigious Educational Software Award (EDDIE)
VizZle Named Top Teaching Tool for Special Ed
SHAKER HEIGHTS, Ohio, Sept. 29 /PRNewswire/ -- The educational community has again recognized VizZle educational software as a groundbreaking tool in the special education field. In its 15th annual Educational Software Review Awards (EDDIE), The ComputED Gazette named VizZle a premier Teacher Tool and gave it an EDDIE for best Special Education Website. VizZle has now won seven educational awards since launching last year for its innovative approach to teaching children with autism.
"The special education field simply needs better tools," said Terry Murphy, CEO of Monarch Teaching Technologies, which developed VizZle. "After five years of R&D, these awards confirm the breakthrough value of VizZle to the most important people – the incredibly dedicated teachers of special needs children. It's wonderful to know this software is truly helping children with autism succeed."
The ComputED Gazette, based in California, considers companies and products from across the country for the national EDDIE awards. The Gazette also hosts the national BESSIE awards, and in 2009, BESSIE reviewers said "VizZle should be part of every special needs teacher's tool kit."
Created by researchers from Childrens Hospital Boston/Harvard Medical School and educators from the Monarch School for Children with Autism, VizZle capitalizes on children's visual processing skills and their inherent interest in multimedia. Research shows that children with autism pay attention and retain more when lessons are presented interactively on computers than when the lesson is presented in more traditional verbal/directive methods. Children with autism become very engaged when using computers, touch screens, tablets and electronic whiteboards which run the VizZle software.
VizZle, short for "visual learning," offers both the tools to create lessons and a library of thousands of visual lessons made by other users to teach academic as well as daily life concepts such as emotions. Today, school districts in over 30 states are using VizZle. Teachers are adding to the library of lessons and sharing materials with peers and parents across the country.
