NEW ORLEANS, Sep 11, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Voltus Inc., the leading provider of demand response to the commercial and industrial market, announced today that it is the first to bring Louisiana-based customers into the Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO) demand response market. This announcement makes Louisiana the fifth state in the MISO footprint that Voltus has opened, along with Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and Texas.
"Large electricity customers are accustomed to the financial rewards of demand response in other regions like Texas, where electric rates have been more competitive and demand response is often used to combat rising rates while keeping jobs in the region. Now, Louisiana large energy consumers can enjoy these same rewards," said Gregg Dixon, CEO of Voltus.
Louisiana has the potential for 2,300 MWs of commercial and industrial demand response. Due to customer appetite for these programs and Voltus' market innovation, Louisiana now has a unique opportunity to address increasing electricity grid vulnerability, which caused emergency conditions during the Winter of 2018, with the least-cost, most reliable resource to address peak power needs. And demand response puts millions of dollars back into the pockets of Louisiana's largest employers.
"We're excited to help Louisiana remain an attractive location for employers to site and retain large commercial and industrial electricity loads while also providing Louisiana and MISO the year-round benefits of demand response. Not only do ratepayers benefit significantly from this development but regulators like the City of New Orleans and the Louisiana PSC now have a new resource to address peak demand needs," said Matt Plante, president of Voltus Inc.
