Vonage Granted Another Three Patents
Company Now Owns 33 U.S. Patents, with 15 U.S. Patents Granted in 2013
HOLMDEL, N.J., Nov. 19, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Vonage Holdings Corp. (NYSE: VG), a leading provider of communication services connecting people through cloud-connected devices worldwide, today announced that it was granted three new patents in November by the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
U.S. Pat. No. 8,588,387, "Method and Apparatus for Providing an Identifier for a Caller ID Function in a Telecommunications System," issued today, relates to a service that allows a customer to identify that an incoming call is from an existing contact, even when that contact is dialing from a number that is unknown to the customer. The '387 patent is Vonage's fifth related to virtual numbers, a technology that enables customers to make long-distance calls by dialing a local number, allowing them to save money. In addition, virtual numbers allow customers to establish a "local" presence virtually anywhere in the world, no matter where they are physically located.
U.S. Pat. No. 8,588,389, "System for Effecting a Telephone Call Over a Computer Network Without Alphanumeric Keypad Operation," also issued today, relates to a "click-to-call" feature for connecting a call that is requested through something other than a phone's keypad, for example, a web interface. The '389 patent builds on Vonage's earlier patent, U.S. Pat. No. 8,320,543, which broadly covers the "click-to-call" feature and focuses on the customer billing aspects of the invention.
U.S. Pat. No. 8,582,740, "Method for Automated Management of a Telecommunication Service," issued on November 12, 2013, relates to a telecommunications device that automatically knows when to enable a customer's service. This technology does this by detecting the current status of the customer's account, such as whether the account is in good standing, in arrears or suspended.
"We have obtained six new patents in the past two months, continuing the trend of accelerated growth in our patent portfolio," said Chief Legal Officer, Kurt M. Rogers. "The three new patents issued this month build on earlier patents granted to Vonage, more completely protecting the full scope of our inventions."
Vonage has been granted 15 patents and filed more than 80 patent applications in 2013. The company now has 33 U.S. patents and more than 200 U.S. patent applications pending, along with many foreign patents and pending applications in jurisdictions worldwide.
