VPAR Live Golf Scoring Delivers Ultimate Experience at PGA of Belgium Omnium Tournament
LONDON, August 26, 2013 /PRNewswire/ --
The 2013 Omnium of Belgium, the most important tournament on the national calendar, this year was held at the prestigious Limburg Golf and Country Club Houthalen. The first Omnium of Belgium in Houthalen, was contended and won in 1977 by the American Bob Wynn. It has since gone from strength to strength thanks also to sponsorship from Concentra and Securitas and is now also recognised as the PGA Championship of Belgium.
The course was designed by renowned British golf course architect, Fred Hawtree and expertly moulded around the local heath, sand dunes and woodland on the stunning 'Tenhaagdoornheide' nature reserve.
For the first time, the official scoring for this year's event was provided by VPAR Live Golf Scoring. The revolutionary and world leading live scoring experience, allows players to follow a real-time leaderboard on handheld scorepads, on large screens around the course, in the clubhouse as well as live online across the world.
The ladies competition was won by Chloé Leurquin, who won last year as an amateur. Leurquin was leading by 2 shots after day 3 and overcame the final round pressure to clinch the title with a 2 over par 74, enough to win by a comfortable 6 shots as the chasing pack struggled to climb the leaderboard.
In the men's competition, an engrossing dual between Pierre Relecom and Christopher Mivis unfolded over the 4 days which saw both hold the lead at various points in their bid for victory. After a superb round of 66 on day 2, Relecom stormed ahead of Mivis only to let it slip again after day 3. As the final round began, Relecom knew he was only one shot back from Mivis and a round under par was needed.
Throughout the day the lead swung back and forth as players and spectators followed the live leaderboard closely on the course, in the clubhouse and online which saw over 40,000 hits. In the end Relecom held his nerve in a tense finish with 5 consecutive pars for a winning score of -10, two shots clear of second place Mivis and amateur, Pierre-Alexis Roland.
A fantastic 4 days of golf.
