VProud Launches First-of-its-kind Video Social Network Built By Women For Women
With the Internet becoming an increasingly unsafe environment for intimate conversations, VProud launches as a digital safe space for women
Proprietary technology allows members to communicate openly and honestly, with no topic off-limits
NEW YORK, Oct. 29, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Meeting the unique needs of women and their online lives, VProud today announced the launch of a first-of-its-kind video social network, built by women for women. VProud, which has already attracted over 250,000 users in its first month of beta, features original and curated video content, and social features allowing members to communicate with each other publicly, privately or both, with a proprietary interface that protects users from internet trolls.
With online attacks against women increasing in recent months, VProud offers women a safe digital sanctuary to communicate with other women, free from verbal hostility and abuse. Thousands of topics are discussed in real time, including parenting, business & careers, education, healthcare, modern feminism, sex how-to, LGTBQ issues, addiction, mental health, fertility, pregnancy, body image, relationships, and more. Nothing is off the table, except for hateful and disrespectful speech, which is filtered out through a proprietary mix of technology and community involvement.
The brainchild of former YouTube, Google, and AOL Video executive, Karen Cahn, VProud's foundation is not only its content, but also the meaningful engagement created among the VProud community. A leader in the digital media space for 15 years, Cahn's primary focus has been on video development, engagement, and monetization. Most recently, Cahn was responsible for business strategy and strategic partnerships at AOL Original Video, most notably driving over 150 million views in its first year. Prior to that, Cahn spent 10 years at Google and YouTube in various leadership roles in video, display, and search monetization.
"With countless examples of events and trends that contribute to an overall feeling of danger for women online, including online harassment, cybersexism, and comment trolling, I wanted to create a protected space for women to connect," said VProud founder Karen Cahn. "VProud empowers women with the ability to talk freely about all types of subjects without having the entire world know all of their specific views. It's a digital safe space where no topic is off the table, and it's never been needed more."
