HAMILTON, ON, May 6, 2015 /CNW/ - In promotion of CARSTAR's Great Strides™ Walk for Cystic Fibrosis Canada and to celebrate its first year as title sponsor, CARSTAR Automotive Canada Inc. (CARSTAR) is asking Canadians to use the hashtag #AWorldWithoutCF throughout the month of May to raise funds for lifesaving cystic fibrosis (CF) research and treatments.
For every #AWorldWithoutCF tweet, retweet or share on Twitter and Facebook that Canadians make from May 1 to May 31, CARSTAR will donate $5.00 to the CARSTAR's Great Strides™ Walk for Cystic Fibrosis Canada, up to $100,000.
As part of the tweet-to-donate program, CARSTAR is also challenging Canadians to experience what it's like to live with limited breathing abilities associated with Cystic Fibrosis1 by taking a simple, 60-second straw challenge – the CARSTAR Straw Challenge. CARSTAR will donate $5.00 towards the Walk for Straw Challenges that are uploaded or shared on social media using the hashtag #AWorldWithoutCF.
How to take the CARSTAR Straw Challenge:
Step 1: Place a straw in your mouth
Step 2: Breathe through your mouth for 60-seconds2
Step 3: Take part in moderate physical activity (i.e. walking) for the most realistic experience
Step 4: Share a photo or video of your challenge, or tweet about your experience with the hashtag #AWorldWithoutCF

The CARSTAR's Great Strides™ Walk for Cystic Fibrosis Canada is Cystic Fibrosis' flagship national fundraising event that raises critical funds for cystic fibrosis research, care and advocacy initiatives to help Canadians with cystic fibrosis live longer, healthier lives. Thousands of supporters will take strides for a cure on Sunday May 31st at 70 locations across Canada, culminating Cystic Fibrosis Canada's May 2015 awareness campaign that is designed to encourage Canadians to imagine a world without cystic fibrosis.
CARSTAR has been a proud supporter of Cystic Fibrosis Canada since learning that a granddaughter of a franchise partner had been diagnosed with CF. Victoria Whitaker's story inspired the company's first CF-related charity event, and in 2000, CARSTAR proudly named Cystic Fibrosis Canada its official charity of choice. Since then, the company has raised more than $2.3 million for CF research and Victoria continues to live a positive and inspiring life in her home of Smithville, Ontario.

Cystic Fibrosis is the most common fatal genetic disease affecting Canadian children and young adults. There is no cure. CF causes various effects on the body, but mainly affects the digestive system and lungs. The persistence and ongoing infection in the lungs, with destruction of lungs and loss of lung function, eventually causes death in the majority of people who have CF. It is estimated that one in every 3,600 children born in Canada has CF.
