Water Environment Research Foundation (WERF) Poised to Present Prestigious Industry Awards
ALEXANDRIA, Va., Oct. 11, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Water Environment Research Foundation (WERF) will present two prestigious awards next week at the industry's leading technical conference, WEFTEC. WERF will announce the recipient of the Paul L. Busch Award for research and the recipient of the Award for Excellence in Innovation at WERF's Annual Subscriber Recognition Luncheon on Tuesday, October 18, 2011. This year the event is in Los Angeles, California.
Each year, WERF recognizes an outstanding individual or team of individuals whose ongoing efforts contribute significantly to water quality research and its practical application in the water environment, with the prestigious Paul L. Busch Award. The award carries a $100,000 grant from the WERF endowment to support and promote work that will bring new benefits to the water quality community (utilities, industries, environmental firms) and the water-using public they serve. "The WERF endowment honors Paul L. Busch, Ph.D., with this award because he so completely embodied the spirit of creativity, visionary thinking, and practical application of scientific research — a spirit that is essential to passing on a clean-water environment to future generations," states Jane Knecht, WERF Director of Development. This year's recipient will be the 11th honoree to receive the award.
Knecht also notes, "this year, the Paul L. Busch Award presentation will be accompanied by the inaugural presentation of the WERF Award for Excellence in Innovation." This new award recognizes organizations that have made improvements to wastewater and stormwater collection, storage or treatment operations, facilities, or processes by applying WERF research. "The industry will be inspired by the work of this year's winners," Knecht explains. Reviewers on the Selection Committee were sincerely excited to reward this innovative work.
Over two hundred will attend the luncheon, including this and previous year's recipients of the Paul L. Busch Award. William P. Dee, P.E., BCEE, President and CEO of Malcolm Pirnie, Inc., the Water Division of ARCADIS, and Chair of the WERF Board of Directors will present the Paul L. Busch Award. Joseph Zuback, President of Global Water Advisors, Inc., and chair of the WERF Board of Directors' Subscriber Services Committee will present the Award for Excellence in Innovation.
