WebMD Health Foundation Honored as Leader in Health by CancerCare
RANCHO SANTA FE, Calif., March 4 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- WebMD Health Foundation, a private foundation dedicated to improving the quality of healthcare through education, access, and innovative collaborations, today announced that CancerCare, a national nonprofit organization that provides free, professional support services to anyone affected by cancer, has recognized the foundation for its charitable contributions to CancerCare's financial assistance programs.
"WebMD Health Foundation is honored to be recognized for our support of CancerCare for more than ten years," said Pamela S. Wygod, Co-chair, WebMD Health Foundation. "Our organization is committed to providing financial assistance to help families in the San Diego area struggling with the costs associated with cancer treatment."
WebMD Health Foundation's Ivan and Mona Rubin Special Assistance Fund was honored for its assistance that has helped more than 3,400 cancer patients in San Diego and Imperial Counties benefit from direct financial assistance with transportation to doctor appointments and treatment, child care, home care, and medications. For the first time, through this partnership, CancerCare had an opportunity to provide free health services to those affected by cancer outside of the New York Tri-State area.
"We are so grateful to WebMD Health Foundation for its generous support of CancerCare's transportation assistance program," said Helen H. Miller, LCSW, CancerCare CEO. "Because the costs of just getting to and from their treatment can be a barrier for many patients in getting the care they need, the WebMD Health Foundation's generous support enables thousands of people facing cancer to have one less thing to worry about."
WebMD Health Foundation, along with The Avon Foundation for Women and Novartis Oncology, were honored at CancerCare's "Partnerships in Hope" annual awards dinner. For more than 65 years, CancerCare has provided financial assistance to help with expenses associated with cancer treatment. The organization's free programs include counseling, support groups, education, financial assistance and practical help, all provided by professional oncology social workers.
