Weight Watchers® Hosts "One Amazing Day" To Share Inspiring Success Stories

NEW YORK, Jan. 10, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- On Saturday, January 12, nearly 900 participating Weight Watchers locations will hold a special "One Amazing Day" public event: A celebration of Weight Watchers' 50^th anniversary and an opportunity for thousands of successful members to share their stories of weight loss and transformation to inspire others.

"When members attend Weight Watchers meetings, they see and hear from others who have lost weight successfully, including every one of our Leaders, which instills a sense of belief that they can do it, too," said Daniel Boockvar, Senior Vice President, U.S. Operations, Weight Watchers International. "One Amazing Day is an opportunity to apply that approach by combining the most inspiring stories from our members into one collective moment of sharing to encourage those who are ready to make a change."

One Amazing Day is part of Weight Watchers' year-long "Expect Amazing" campaign, which delivers a simple, singular promise: When a weight-loss program is built for human nature, you can expect amazing. That promise comes to life in the new Weight Watchers 360° program – a revolutionary approach designed to help make healthy choices become second nature. It recognizes that we're only human and success does not have to be synonymous with perfection.

As part of that recognition, Weight Watchers will be collecting and sharing stories of members and Weight Watchers Online subscribers – beginning with the thousands of storytellers at One Amazing Day and continuing with the "I'm Only Human and I Did It" Project. The project, launched on December 26, is dedicated to inspiring people who don't believe they have it within themselves to lose the weight and learn to keep it off. Members, including Jennifer Hudson and Jessica Simpson, and Online subscribers will share heartfelt and honest stories of their own journeys, including raw portrayals of their struggles, to help spread the message that you don't have to be superhuman to be successful at losing weight. Weight Watchers will also invite anyone to share their story via a special user-generated tab within the channel. The goal is to inspire people at any stage of their weight-loss journey to overcome self-doubt and believe they can do it, too.

What to Expect on One Amazing Day

Following are just a few of the amazing stories that will be delivered live and in person at participating locations across the U.S.:

Candice McCain, Cumming, GA

McCain is an account executive who was recently featured in People Magazine's "Half My Size" issue. Like many people, McCain thought health issues due to being overweight would never happen to her. After losing 163 pounds on Weight Watchers, McCain has a new outlook on believing. She will tell her story, including how her cholesterol dropped significantly and how she's looking forward to renewing her wedding vows in a form-fitting dress.

Jennie Lewis, Long Island, NY

Jennie will share the heart-breaking story of how she was quite literally close to death – completely homebound due to obesity – and how her life changed completely because of Weight Watchers. Unable to participate in important life events, such as her children's graduations, Lewis needed to make a lifestyle change that saved her life. She will tell her story of losing approximately 300 pounds and becoming a regular at the gym, and how she now inspires members everyday as a Weight Watchers Leader who continues to maintain a healthy lifestyle in the real world.

Audrey Northup, Tampa, FL

A remarkable example of someone who made a sustainable lifestyle change, Northup graced the cover of Weight Watchers Magazine in 1976 after losing 125 pounds on the program. She was even picked to attend the Weight Watchers 10th anniversary at Madison Square Garden.  At 76 years old, Northup still weighs in regularly.
