TAMPA, Fla., Oct. 13, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- WellCare Health Plans, Inc. (NYSE: WCG) announced today that it named Elizabeth Miller state president, Florida, effective Oct. 15. She will have responsibility for WellCare's Medicaid and Medicare Advantage businesses across the state, including strategy, regulatory compliance, network management, sales and marketing, medical management, finance and administration.
Miller will report to Gregg MacDonald, who has taken a broader role at WellCare as a division president, overseeing Florida, Georgia and South Carolina. He served as the company's state president of Florida for two years.
"Liz is an innovative health care leader with extensive clinical, operational and executive management experience," said MacDonald. "She has a deep understanding of what is needed to deliver quality health care to seniors, people with disabilities and those with low incomes. I expect her leadership to contribute significantly to our efforts to continuously improve the care and service we provide to more than 850,000 Floridians in partnership with the state and our providers."
"I began my health care career as an oncology nurse with a strong desire to help vulnerable patients at such a critical juncture in their lives," said Miller. "I joined WellCare in 2012 with much the same intent – to help those who rely on Medicaid and Medicare live better, healthier lives. It's an honor to be named president and I look forward to continuing to find ways to improve access and quality for our members."
Miller served as the Florida market's chief operating officer since 2014. Previously, she was the market's vice president of product operations, where she was responsible for WellCare's successful bid and implementation of Florida's Managed Medical Assistance Medicaid program.
Prior to joining WellCare, Miller held corporate and field leadership roles with Genesis Healthcare, and network management and health service leadership roles with UnitedHealth Group. She has a master's of business administration from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, and master's and bachelor's degrees in nursing from the University of Pennsylvania.
As of June 30, 2016, WellCare serves approximately 773,000 Medicaid members, 60,000 Florida Healthy Kids members, 92,000 Medicare Advantage members, and 29,000 Medicare Prescription Drug Plan members in Florida.
