The Kentucky Public Health Association Conference brings together more than 400 public health professionals and practitioners from across the Commonwealth to help foster healthy communities through education, leadership and commitment to excellence.
On Wednesday, April 13, 2016 WellCare of Kentucky will host the following seminars:
- Jarrod Roberts, a WellCare of Kentucky community advocate, along with Cynthia Landon of the Marshall County Health Department and Angie Fisk, retired principal of Sharpe Elementary, will talk about, "Team Ultra – A Program to Reduce Childhood Obesity: Partnership, Programming and Outcomes." Team Ultra is an after-school physical fitness, nutrition education and character building program. Beginning as a running club in one elementary school, Team Ultra now operates in all six elementary schools in Marshall County.
- Sharli Rogers, a WellCare of Kentucky community advocate, will join Martin Richards of the Community Farm Alliance to discuss, "Healthy Foods Access: Strengthening Local Food Systems to Help Families Access Fresh Foods." WellCare of Kentucky encourages expanded use of local farmers markets by partnering with Community Farm Alliance's Farmers Market Support programs. These programs are designed to help strengthen the infrastructure of local farmers markets, make it easier and more affordable for low-income Kentuckians to access fresh produce, and build community partnerships to facilitate long-term market sustainability.
