CordeValle to Host Next Prestigious Sporting Event to Hit Bay Area July 4-10
SAN MARTIN, Calif., June 24, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- The Super Bowl, Stanley Cup and NBA Finals are now complete and the next prestigious sporting event to take place in the Bay Area is fast approaching: the 71st U.S. Women's Open. The world's most historic women's golf championship is set to take place in the San Francisco Bay Area for the first time ever, July 4-10, at CordeValle, located just south of San Jose, California. This will be the first time the championship has returned to California in 34 years; the only two prior visits were 1964 in San Diego and 1982 in Sacramento.

A field of 156 of the world's best professional and amateur female golfers will compete at CordeValle, including world No. 1 Lydia Ko; 2015 U.S. Women's Open champion In Gee Chun; past winners Paula Creamer, Se Ri Pak and Michelle Wie; and top-ranked Americans Lexi Thompson and Stacy Lewis, as well as more than 25 of the world's top amateur players. Additionally, the U.S. Women's Open is the final qualifying event before teams are named for the 2016 Olympic Games, adding to the excitement of championship week.

Scores of golf fans from across the region are expected to visit the area during the week of the championship. From autograph signings and Junior Day (July 6) activities to a plethora of food and beverage opportunities, the weeklong event will be filled with family-friendly activities. Anyone 17 and under is admitted for free, making a visit to the U.S. Women's Open ideal for the entire family.
Tickets range in price from $20 for a practice round daily ticket and $45 for a championship daily ticket, to $75 for a CordeValle Reserve one-day ticket and $250 for the weekend long CordeValle Reserve Package. The Reserve tickets provide an upgraded, elevated experience, including access to the lofty vistas at the on-site winery with locally inspired menu items and premium wines from the on-site winery and nearby wineries. Public parking is free with dedicated shuttles running all day every day.
CordeValle has hosted top tier championships in years prior, including the PGA Tour's Frys.com Open from 2010-2013, as well as the 2011 and 2015 PGA Cups, and the U.S. Senior Women's Amateur Championship in 2013.
