West Virginia Retailers Association praises NPLEx

So says the West Virginia Retailers Association in a recent news release about NPLEx, the electronic tracking system that tracks purchases of pseudoephedrine, a precursor to the manufacture of methamphetamine. Since West Virginia implemented the system at the beginning of the year, the West Virginia Board of Pharmacy reports NPLEx has blocked the sale of 9,900 boxes of pseudoephedrine. That equates to more than 26,000 grams of pseudoephedrine that could have been used to make meth.

"(NPLEx) takes the pressure off of retailers by automatically blocking any illegal transaction of pseudoephedrine at the point of sale," says the retailers' release. "It's an easy-to-use system."

West Virginia is one of 29 states using the NPLEx system. The National Association of Drug Diversion Investigators is working in conjunction with the Consumer Healthcare Products Association to provide this service in those states.
