Westborn Market Detroit Holiday Gift Baskets Changing with the Times
BERKLEY, Mich., Dec. 15, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- With names like The Morning Grind, Hipster Hard Cider Crate, The Munchies and Beerologist Basket, there's something for everyone on your Christmas shopping gift list with Westborn Market's authentic Detroit holiday gift baskets.
Westborn Market, which started as a local community market over 50 years ago, has become an international marketplace well known for its eclectic holiday baskets. While the baskets were all about glitz and glamour in their early years, they're all about Detroit today featuring Michigan-made products and, in some cases, even baskets that are made of locally reclaimed wood.
"We try to make the baskets fun for everyone who receives them," says Westborn Market CEO Bryan Bandyk. "Whether you're looking to surprise a friend, thank a client, reward an employee or just celebrate the season, we think one of our gift baskets will be just right for the occasion." Westborn also makes personalized baskets to include whatever products the customer wants.
In addition to using authentic Detroit products, today's Westborn baskets feature popular, practical items that people will actually use and enjoy, not just the kind of holiday items that were used in the past and that customers couldn't find in the stores after the holidays.
Although nobody's kept an accurate count, Westborn estimates that it has created and sold more than 250,000 gift baskets over the years. Today an estimated 25% of the baskets are sold online and shipped directly to out-of-town Detroiters looking for something from home.
"Fifty years ago our baskets were pretty much all about us," says Bandyk. "But over the years we've learned they've got to be about the locally-made products we feature and about our customers who buy and receive them. We combine items in an interesting, purposeful way to make sure that they have a special meaning to the people who are ultimately going to receive them. That's what makes a Westborn baskets such a special gift."
"Detroit's Good Food" is a featured basket for 2017 packaged in reclaimed wood from Detroit buildings custom made for Westborn by Hamtramck's own Woodward Throwbacks and packed with Made in Michigan favorites like Vernor's Ginger Ale, McClure's Pickles and Chips, High 5, and even a Michigan mitten shaped ornament made from reclaimed wood.
