LIVONIA, Mich., May 31, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Bigge Crane and Rigging, a premier On - Off Hwy Heavy Haul specialist in the USA, uses the Western Star 6900 Tractors with the Fabco FAT-30 for moving 250,000 lbs to 1,300,000 lbs Gross Combination Weights (GCW) on a regular basis. When the FAT-30 is matched up with today's high horse power and high torque engines, new and more robust automatic transmissions, and increased GCW capable axles; only road-legal single and double sized tractors are needed for today's heavy hauls.
Fabco Automotive designed the FAT-30 with twice the torque capacity of the (2) and (4) speed auxiliary transmissions traditionally used by the heavy haul industry; a market that is accustomed to transmissions that overheat, explode, and even twist out of the frame due to consistently working near or above capacity. In addition to major safety concerns, these down-time events can be expensive.

Historically, large 12' wide off-road tractors have been the only vehicles offering high torque powertrains suitable for on-road heavy haul. The FAT-30 now provides high power density in a compact footprint.
The FAT-30 can regularly handle up to 30,000 ft-lbs of input torque for sustained periods of time without difficulty. The advanced cooling requirements keep the auxiliary transmission cool and the severe duty installation system keeps the box in the frame.
In addition to the on - off highway heavy haul market, the FAT-30 is currently used in the oil fields of Canada and the Middle East, and for mining in North America. It's also suited for extreme logging and other applications in agriculture as well as stationary industrial and oil field equipment.
