Wheelift Systems Group® Announces Diverse Industry Use of Heavy Load Transporters
Wheelift's custom engineered transporters are designed and built in the United States
WAVERLY, Iowa, June 26, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- How do you safely and securely move the equivalent of a dozen or more elephants? Just ask Mel Terry, an expert in equalizing suspension technologies who began his career designing effective ways to move oilrigs on Alaska's North Slope. In 2004 Terry joined the Doerfer Companies to help create the Wheelift Systems Group, a rising leader in ultra-heavy capacity transporter systems that are revolutionizing operations across industries.
Fully appreciating the extreme problematic nature of air bearings, Terry set out to design a wheel based technology that could provide similar loading plus all-directional steering capabilities. That effort resulted in a patentable equalizing suspension axle system ideally suited for rugged industrial environments and complex manufacturing operations. Wheelift's transporters are used worldwide in aircraft and ship assembly, mining operations, nuclear spent fuel transport and just about every other heavy manufacturing or industrial operation requiring extremely heavy load transport.
"We manufacture a totally new version of self-propelled modular transporters (SPMTs). Wheelift's new technology offers equally heavy load capacities as traditional systems while being much smaller and more flexible than European built SPMTs. We offer IP-SPMTs (In-Plant). The U.S. Navy, government contractors and others have proven the Wheelift difference translates to more efficiencies and savings over time," explains Terry. "Industries seeking safety and precision over cumbersome, traditional methods will benefit from investing in our product. It is that simple."
Custom engineered and manufactured in central Iowa, Wheelift's transporters are available with load capacities accommodating up to 500 tons and movement flexibility as small as one thousandth of an inch to facilitate load placement. The Wheelift difference is rooted in individually powered and controlled modules that provide flexibility. The transporters can cross a wide range of surface irregularities including grating, drains, old in-floor rails, open expansion joints and ramps without the risk of injury and instability inherent in conventional methods.
Wheelift's broad line of transporter systems is revolutionizing how manufacturers build their equipment. Wheelift Systems Group is based in Waverly, Iowa. For more information visit www.wheelift.com.
